Murals
Dura is adorned with unique murals, so much so that it has become known as the City of Murals, its walls and squares turned into eloquent pages telling the story of the homeland and its people. Through the brush of the Palestinian artist Yousef Katlo, stone merged with ideas and color with memory, and from solid rock emerged paintings full of life carrying the symbols of land and identity: from the key and the old house to ears of wheat and the farmer's tools, and from the faces of leaders, thinkers and poets to images of martyrs, prisoners and makers of freedom. The murals are built from harmonious pieces of stone, like a mosaic of the homeland itself: the stones are separate, yet they come together in one complete picture. And so Dura's murals have become more than works of art: they are a painted memory and an enduring visual anthem that preserves the history of the Palestinian people, embodies their struggle and dreams, and gives the city a soul that speaks the language of stone when words fall silent.
