Dura Mayor Receives Head of the Palestinian Community in Dortmund
Dura Mayor Mr. Muhannad Amr received Dr. Hisham Hammad, Head of the Palestinian Community in the German city of Dortmund, accompanied by Dr. Samir Al-Namoura, former Mayor of Dura. The meeting was held within the framework of the historic relationship between the Municipality of Dura and the German city of Dortmund.
During the meeting, Dr. Hisham Hammad conveyed a message from the Mayor of Dortmund, whom he was representing. Discussions focused on a number of issues and initiatives that could be pursued during the coming period, as well as ways to benefit from the existing relationship between the two cities to implement programs that serve the city of Dura and its residents.
The meeting also addressed a proposal to establish a youth center in Dura and the latest developments concerning the project. The center would provide a supportive space for young people and their initiatives, offering programs in training, economic empowerment, and entrepreneurship, in addition to youth exchange programs and opportunities to benefit from the experiences and expertise available in Dortmund.
Dr. Hisham Hammad also visited the Dura Youth Council, where he learned about the council’s current activities, the needs and aspirations of young people, and listened to a number of initiatives and ideas being developed by the council, particularly in the areas of youth initiatives, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and youth-oriented programs.
Mayor Muhannad Amr stressed the importance of utilizing Dura’s historic relationship with Dortmund to develop practical programs and initiatives that address the city’s needs, particularly those of the youth sector. He noted the municipality’s commitment to providing young people with spaces and opportunities that enable them to develop their skills, participate in public life, and contribute to local development.
For his part, Dr. Hisham Hammad affirmed the readiness of the Palestinian community in Dortmund to contribute to following up on the ideas discussed during the meeting and to help connect the Dura Youth Council and institutions in Dura with relevant organizations and stakeholders in Dortmund. This, he said, would help transform the proposed ideas into practical steps and implementable programs.
Dr. Hisham Hammad also met with members of the Dura Municipal Council during its weekly session held at the municipality headquarters. The Mayor and council members welcomed him, and discussions focused on the historic relationship between Dura and Dortmund and the key milestones in the development of this relationship. A number of proposed ideas and projects were also reviewed, foremost among them the youth center project. The participants emphasized the importance of building on previous achievements and following up on initiatives and projects that serve the city and its various sectors.
The meeting comes as part of the ongoing communication between the Municipality of Dura and the City of Dortmund, and efforts to build on the historic relationship between the two cities in a way that addresses the needs of Dura, particularly through programs and initiatives aimed at supporting young people.
