Dura Municipality Explores Support and Development of “Heritage in Your Hands” Initiative
Dura Mayor Mr. Mohannad Amr and Municipal Council Member Ms. Ghina Al-Namoura met with a group of women participating in the “Heritage in Your Hands” initiative, which specializes in handmade straw crafts, to discuss ways to support and develop the initiative and strengthen its presence in the local market.
The women expressed their appreciation to Dura Municipality for providing them with the opportunity to display, promote, and sell their products through the weekly “Al-Omari Market” in central Dura. They highlighted the importance of the market as a space to reach residents and visitors and showcase the diversity and quality of local traditional products.
The Mayor reaffirmed Dura Municipality’s support for small businesses, home-based producers, and artisans, emphasizing the Municipality’s commitment to providing opportunities and spaces that enable local producers to develop their products and access markets, contributing to economic empowerment and strengthening the local economy.
Mr. Amr also discussed with the participants a number of ideas and proposals to develop the “Heritage in Your Hands” initiative and enhance opportunities for marketing its products, as well as potential support for similar women-led and craft-based initiatives. These efforts aim to preserve traditional crafts while encouraging their development into sustainable productive ventures.
The meeting comes as part of Dura Municipality’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and local enterprises and create a supportive environment for small businesses and home-based producers. The “Al-Omari Market,” launched by the Municipality in partnership with the Dura Youth Council, serves as one of these platforms for supporting local products and revitalizing commercial activity in the city center.
