Dura Municipality Explores Support and Development of “Heritage in Your Hands” Initiative

Dura Mayor Mr. Mohannad Amr and Municipal Council Member Ms. Ghina Al-Namoura met with a group of women participating in the “Heritage in Your Hands” initiative, which specializes in handmade straw crafts, to discuss ways to support and develop the initiative and strengthen its presence in the local market.

The women expressed their appreciation to Dura Municipality for providing them with the opportunity to display, promote, and sell their products through the weekly “Al-Omari Market” in central Dura. They highlighted the importance of the market as a space to reach residents and visitors and showcase the diversity and quality of local traditional products.

The Mayor reaffirmed Dura Municipality’s support for small businesses, home-based producers, and artisans, emphasizing the Municipality’s commitment to providing opportunities and spaces that enable local producers to develop their products and access markets, contributing to economic empowerment and strengthening the local economy.

Mr. Amr also discussed with the participants a number of ideas and proposals to develop the “Heritage in Your Hands” initiative and enhance opportunities for marketing its products, as well as potential support for similar women-led and craft-based initiatives. These efforts aim to preserve traditional crafts while encouraging their development into sustainable productive ventures.

The meeting comes as part of Dura Municipality’s broader efforts to strengthen partnerships with the private sector and local enterprises and create a supportive environment for small businesses and home-based producers. The “Al-Omari Market,” launched by the Municipality in partnership with the Dura Youth Council, serves as one of these platforms for supporting local products and revitalizing commercial activity in the city center.

Dura Municipality Honors Participants of First Dura Scout Camp
DURA – Dura Mayor Mr. Muhannad Amr participated on Monday in a ceremony honoring the participants of the 1st Dura City Scout Camp. The camp was organized by Dura Municipality in partnership with the Directorate of Education – South Hebron and the Dura Youth Council from July 19 to July 23, 2026.
The ceremony was attended by the Director of Education – South Hebron, Dr. Yasser Mohammad, alongside representatives of partner institutions. Certificates of participation were distributed to the children in recognition of their commitment and engagement in the camp’s diverse activities.
The camp hosted 50 children and featured a varied program of scout, educational, and awareness training. Activities included basic scouting skills, flag-raising ceremonies, and campsite construction, as well as exercises aimed at enhancing cooperation, discipline, teamwork, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging and responsibility among participants.
Dura Mayor Mr. Muhannad Amr emphasized the importance of supporting scout, youth, and educational initiatives due to their vital role in developing children’s capabilities and fostering positive values. He commended the management of the Dura City Scouts and the organizers for the successful execution of the camp.
For his part, the Director of Education – South Hebron, Dr. Yasser Mohammad, praised the efforts behind organizing the camp, highlighting the importance of such programs in strengthening educational and social values while developing children’s skills.
The event concluded with the presentation of participation certificates amidst an encouraging atmosphere that reflected the success and purposeful goals of the 1st Dura City Scout Camp.

Dura Municipality Congratulates the Administrative Board of

The Mayor of Dura, Eng. Muhannad Amr, along with members of the Municipal Council, visited the Palestine Red Crescent Society – Hebron Branch, where they were received by the Society’s President, Dr. Tareq Al-Jaabari, and members of the Administrative Board. The visit was made to extend congratulations on the renewal of confidence in the Society’s President and members of the Administrative Board and their election for the new term.

The Mayor congratulated Dr. Tareq Al-Jaabari and the members of the Administrative Board, wishing them continued success in advancing the Society’s national, humanitarian, and community-oriented mission. He commended the important health and humanitarian services provided by the Palestine Red Crescent Society to the Palestinian people, particularly in light of the current circumstances and challenges.

The meeting also addressed prospects for strengthening cooperation and coordination between Dura Municipality and the Palestine Red Crescent Society, as well as developing the partnership between the two sides in ways that contribute to serving citizens and strengthening their resilience, particularly in the health, humanitarian, and community sectors. The two sides also discussed the possibility of implementing joint initiatives and programs that respond to the needs of the local community.

Eng. Muhannad Amr affirmed Dura Municipality’s commitment to expanding its partnerships with national and community institutions and making use of the expertise and resources available across various institutions. For his part, Dr. Tareq Al-Jaabari welcomed the Mayor and members of the Municipal Council, expressing his appreciation for the visit and emphasizing the importance of cooperation and partnership with Dura Municipality. The market continues to offer a wide variety of local and traditional products, along with goods made by productive families, handmade crafts, and products created by home-based businesses. The initiative contributes to supporting local products and boosting commercial activity in the city.

The market will remain open until 9:00 p.m. Dura Municipality is inviting residents and visitors to visit the market, shop for the products on display, and support small business owners, productive families, and all participants in this initiative.

Dura Municipality Discusses Strengthening Partnership with the Hebron Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Private Sector

 

Dura Municipality Mayor Mr. Muhannad Amr, along with members of the Municipal Council, received today, Saturday, Mr. Abdo Hamza Idris, Chairman of the Hebron Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Federation of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, accompanied by a number of members of the Chamber’s Board of Directors. The meeting focused on exploring avenues of cooperation and strengthening partnership between the municipality and the private sector in ways that contribute to supporting the local economy, improving services, and creating employment opportunities in the city.

 

During the meeting, the Mayor emphasized the important role played by the private sector in local development, stressing the municipality’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and private sector institutions, based on its belief that public-private partnership is a key pathway toward sustainable development and creating a direct positive impact on citizens’ lives.

 

The Mayor also highlighted that Dura has promising potential and opportunities for attracting projects and investments, noting that the municipality is working to create a suitable environment for economic projects, contributing to overcoming current challenges, advancing development, and creating new income and employment opportunities.

Dura Municipality and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation Discuss Development Projects to Empower Youth and Strengthen the Local Economy, and Inaugurate an Early Breast Cancer Detection Unit at Dura Government Hospital

Dura Mayor Eng. Muhannad Amr and Municipal Council Member Eng. Basem Dodeen received on Wednesday the Head of the Jerusalem Office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Mr. Mirko Tricoli, and his accompanying delegation at the Dura Municipality headquarters to discuss prospects for strengthening cooperation in support of development projects and healthcare services in the city of Dura.

The Mayor welcomed the visiting delegation, expressing his appreciation for the partnership with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and its role in supporting vital projects. He outlined the municipality’s priorities for the coming period, focusing on strengthening the local economy, empowering young people, and creating employment opportunities through development projects, including the establishment of a business incubator and a youth center to support and nurture entrepreneurial initiatives. The discussions also addressed potential support for the municipality and the development of its equipment to enhance the quality of services it provides.

The Mayor reaffirmed Dura Municipality’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation to implement development projects that contribute to youth empowerment and sustainable local development.

Following the meeting, the delegation visited Dura Government Hospital, where they reviewed the hospital’s current situation, needs, and future development plans. The delegation also participated in the inauguration of the Early Breast Cancer Detection Unit, which was established by the Palestinian Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO), and equipped with support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The new unit represents an important step toward strengthening early detection services and improving the quality of healthcare provided to citizens.

During the visit, the administration of Dura Government Hospital praised the strategic partnership with the Italian side and expressed its appreciation for the continued support provided by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the Italian Government, in addition to the contributions of donors, the local community, and Dura Municipality. These combined efforts have contributed to the establishment and development of Dura Government Hospital, the expansion of its departments, and the enhancement of its capacity to provide high-quality healthcare services to citizens.

At the conclusion of the visit, both sides emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation to implement sustainable development and healthcare projects that serve the city of Dura and meet the needs of its residents.
