The meeting included a visit to the municipality\u2019s control and monitoring room, where Brig. Gen. Asiah was briefed on the modern camera surveillance system installed by the municipality on a number of city streets and at key locations. He was also given an explanation of how the system operates and the advanced capabilities it provides, including AI-powered monitoring and analytical technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The municipality emphasized that the importance of the system extends beyond security and the documentation of violations. It serves as an integrated tool for enhancing traffic safety for motorists and pedestrians, improving traffic management, monitoring congestion, overseeing streets, sidewalks, and public facilities, and providing the data needed to support planning and decision-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The system enables the monitoring of vehicle movement on streets and at intersections and helps identify situations that may pose risks to road users or obstruct traffic, including random parking and stopping, parking in locations that obstruct visibility, blocking street and facility entrances, as well as monitoring areas that experience heavy traffic or recurring congestion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also contributes to enhancing pedestrian safety by monitoring sidewalks, pedestrian routes, and areas with high pedestrian activity, while identifying practices that prevent pedestrians from using these spaces safely, particularly when sidewalks are occupied by vehicles, goods, or other obstacles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The system plays an important role in detecting encroachments on streets, sidewalks, public property, and public facilities, as well as monitoring any unauthorized use of public spaces. This helps protect citizens\u2019 right to use these spaces and preserve them as public property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cameras also help detect and document cases of waste and refuse being dumped on streets, roadsides, and public spaces, or discarded from vehicles, in addition to the placement of construction debris and other materials in unauthorized locations. Such practices affect the city\u2019s cleanliness and appearance and may pose risks to the movement of vehicles and pedestrians as well as to public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The system also enables the monitoring of any encroachments upon or damage to municipal property and facilities, including streets, sidewalks, parks, public equipment, traffic lights, and road signs. This helps ensure the rapid detection and documentation of damage or violations and facilitates the necessary action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dura Municipality affirmed that these capabilities enhance its ability to move from addressing problems after they occur toward early detection, prevention, and proactive planning. This is achieved by using data to study traffic patterns, peak hours, congestion locations, areas where violations and encroachments are frequently repeated, and locations requiring organizational or engineering interventions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The data generated by the system provides a basis for developing streets and intersections, improving the distribution of parking spaces, organizing traffic, developing pedestrian routes, assessing needs related to traffic lights and road signs, and identifying locations requiring interventions to improve safety and reduce encroachments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dura Mayor Eng. Muhannad Amr stated that investment in modern technology is part of the municipality\u2019s approach to developing urban management tools and improving service efficiency. He noted that the primary objective is to enhance safety and organization, protect citizens, preserve streets, sidewalks, and public property, and improve the city\u2019s cleanliness and overall appearance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the camera surveillance system provides the municipality and relevant authorities with a clearer and more accurate picture of developments on the ground. It also helps document and follow up on violations and encroachments in accordance with the authorities, legal powers, and procedures in force, while playing a preventive role in reducing behaviors that undermine public order and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mayor commended the level of commitment demonstrated by Dura\u2019s residents, emphasizing that preserving the city is a shared responsibility. He stressed that streets, sidewalks, and public facilities are the right of all citizens and that protecting them requires cooperation, compliance with laws and regulations, and refraining from encroaching upon or damaging public property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For his part, Brig. Gen. Jamal Asiah praised Dura Municipality\u2019s efforts to develop its surveillance system and employ modern technologies. He stressed the importance of such systems in supporting security and public safety, improving traffic monitoring, reducing violations and encroachments, and accelerating responses to accidents and situations requiring field intervention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both sides emphasized the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination between the municipality and security agencies, particularly on issues related to traffic safety, public order, and the protection of public property and facilities, as well as during events and activities that experience high volumes of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
